People moves: Erin Cox joins Walmart as new governance and legal chief

Plus the SEC and TD Bank make changes to their leadership teams

Walmart has named Erin Nealy Cox as its next EVP of global governance, chief legal officer and corporate secretary.

Cox joins Walmart from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where she has served as a partner in the government, regulatory and internal investigations practice group. She previously served as the US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas and was also appointed to and chaired the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee.

Prior to this, Cox was an executive managing director at Stroz Friedberg, a global cybersecurity and risk management firm.

‘To lead global governance for a company of our scale and complexity, you need a leader who has thrived in the most demanding environments. Erin is exactly that leader,’ says John Furner, president and CEO of Walmart.

‘She brings a rare combination of legal strategy and operational rigor that will be essential as we continue to navigate the new era of retail, while staying true to our purpose of helping people save money and live better.’

Cox will assume the role as of April 13, 2026.

Over at the SEC, Judge Margaret Ryan has resigned from her role as director of the division of enforcement after only seven months in the role.

In a statement on the SEC website, Ryan says: ‘I extend my thanks to Chairman Atkins, the Commission, and the staff of the Enforcement Division for the opportunity to continue my public service in a different role.’

Principal deputy director Sam Waldon has been named acting director of the division, while the search for Ryan’s permanent replacement is underway.

Her abrupt departure follows on from her statement last month on course correcting the division – returning its focus to prioritizing cases that provide investor protection rather than technical rule violations.

Over at Canadian multinational financial services company TD Bank Group, Bindu Cudjoe has been appointed general counsel, Canadian banking.

In a LinkedIn post, Cudjoe says that she is ‘excited to contribute to how banking at TD is remarkably human and refreshingly simple’.

She joins TD from Bindustries Consultingwhere she continues to serve as principal and strategic advisor. Before this she was EVP, chief legal officer, chief inclusion and equity officer and corporate secretary at Laurentian Bank.

She has also held roles at the likes of Canadian Western Bank and BMO Financial Group.

Elsewhere, Nine Energy Service, the Houston-basedoilfield services confirmed in an 8-K filing that Theodore Moore, EVP, general counsel and secretary of the company is resigning to accept a position at another company.

No mention of his successor or timeline on his replacement was given.

Similarly, NextEra Energy’s EVP and chief risk officer Terrell Kirk Crews is to step down from his role to accept a chief financial officer position with another company.

The company thanks Crews for his ‘leadership and contributions and wishes him success in his future endeavors’.
