People moves: Betsy Fishbone promoted to chief legal officer at Colgate-Palmolive

Plus Nauticus Robotics, Geron and Prothena expand their legal teams

Colgate-Palmolive has confirmed that Betsy Fishbone will serve as the company’s new chief legal officer and secretary, as of June 01.

Fishbone currently serves as EVP, deputy chief legal officer and has been with the company since 2001.

Fishbone is to succeed Jennifer Daniels who has served in the role since 2014. From June 01, Daniels will act as vice chair of the company to oversee an orderly transition of responsibilities.

On the regulatory side of things, the SEC has named David Woodcock as director of the Division of Enforcement.

Woodcock takes over from Judge Margaret Ryan who exited the role last month. Sam Waldon, who stepped in as acting director of the Division of Enforcement, will stay in the role until May 4, when Woodcock takes over.

Woodcock is currently a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where he serves as chair of the firm’s securities enforcement practice group.Before that, he served as a senior in-house corporate attorney at Exxon Mobil and for the Commission as director of the Fort Worth Regional Office from 2011 to 2015.

Nauticus Robotics, a provider of subsea robotics and software, has confirmed the appointment of Michael Ferrier as general counsel. Ferrier takes over from John Symington who is leaving the role.

Ferrier joins from Berry Corporation where he served as assistant general counsel advising on commercial transactions, regulatory compliance as well as labor and employment matters.

Before that he acted as general counsel, corporate secretary and chief human resources officer at Cenergy International Services. He also held senior legal roles at Parker Drilling Company, including deputy general counsel and associate general counsel.

Earlier in his career, Ferrier held legal positions at Tesco Corporation and Stewart Title Guaranty Company.

Biopharmaceutical company Geron has announced the appointment of Timothy Williams as EVP, chief legal officer and corporate secretary.

Williams joins from Vanda Pharmaceuticals where he served as SVP, general counsel and secretary. Prior to this, he acted as EVP, general counsel, chief compliance officer and corporate secretary at AgNovos Bioscience. Before this, Williams was senior legal counsel and assistant secretary at Stryker, where he led the legal department’s global M&A, corporate governance and securities groups.

At Nasdaq-listed Prothena, Michael Isaacs is being promoted to general counsel and corporate secretary, succeeding Michael Malecek who will be leaving the company in June.

Isaacs joined the company in 2020, serving most recently as deputy general counsel. Prior to joining Prothena, he was a corporate associate at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP.

Structure Theraputics has appointed Matthew Lang as its new chief operating officer and general counsel.

He enters the role with more than 15 years of executive leadership experience across global biopharmaceutical companies.

Lang comes from biopharmaceutical company Metsera, where he held the position of chief legal officer and secretary. During his tenure he helped guide the company through its up to $10 bn acquisition by Pfizer.

Before that he served as chief business and legal officer at Lyell Immunopharma and held several executive officer positions at Myovant Sciences. He has also worked for the likes of Myovant, Gilead Sciences andDechert, LLP.

Over in Canada, Gemdale Gold has named Andrew Newbury as its new corporate secretary, replacing Dr Toby Strauss, who will continue in his role as president and CEO.

Newbury joins from DSA Corporate Services, where he’s worked since 2017, as holds the position of senior account executive providing corporate secretarial and governance advisory services to small- and mid-cap issuers listed on the TSX, TSX Venture and Canadian Securities Exchange.
