    Off-season engagement increases proxy backing, say half of US companies

    More than 80 percent of firms globally say off-season engagement results in stronger relationship with investors, according to new research Just over half of US companies – 52 percent – say their off-season engagement activities translate into increased support when it comes to the proxy vote, according to the latest research from Corporate Secretary sister publication IR Magazine.     Mike Ouimette most recently worked at Portola Pharmaceuticals Nasdaq-listed Pliant Therapeutics has recruited Mike Ouimette as general counsel and corporate secretary. Ouimette joins Pliant having most recently worked as vice president and assistant secretary of Portola Pharmaceuticals before its acquisition by Alexion Pharmaceuticals. He has also worked as senior corporate counsel and assistant secretary of Onyx Pharmaceuticals before its acquisition by Amgen.     Department wants to bar fiduciaries from voting proxies unless the issue has an economic impact on the plan The Council of Institutional Investors (CII) has urged the US government to drop a plan the group says would muzzle Employee Retirement Income Security Act (Erisa) plan participants.     ExxonMobil picks successor to general counsel

    Randall Ebner retiring after more than 40 years at the company ExxonMobil Corporation’s board has picked Craig Morford as the company’s next vice president and general counsel. Morford is currently deputy general counsel. He will succeed Randall Ebner, who has announced his retirement – effective November 1 – having spent more than four decades with the company.
