The new age of US bank deregulation: what it means for GRC professionals

The US banking sector is preparing for a new regulatory landscape that could reshape risk management across financial institutions and markets

NYSE-listed social media company Snaphas appointed long-term outside counsel Zachery Briers as its new general counsel.

He joins from Munger, Tolles & Olson where he worked for 13 years as a partner.

Briers succeeds Michael O’Sullivan, who in September announced plans to step down from the role at the end of the year.

In a LinkedIn post announcing his appointment, Briers says: ‘Snap continues to redefine how people communicate and express themselves and I look forward to contributing to its mission and being a part of its exceptional leadership team.’

Staying in the US, Nasdaq-listed Life360, a family connectivity and safety company, named Matt Cullen as its new general counsel.

Reporting directly to CEO Lauren Antonoff, Cullen will also serve as the company’s corporate secretary and the primary legal advisor to the executive team and board of directors.

Before joining Life360, Cullen served as senior vice president and general counsel at Porch Group. Prior to that, he held senior roles at Expedia Group where he co-led global M&A and integrations.

‘Matt is a mission-driven leader who combines sharp legal insight with a deep understanding of how great teams scale responsibly,’ says Antonoff.

Meanwhile, Live Oak Bancshares, a NYSE-listed financial holding company, confirms that Ewa Stasiowska has been named chief risk officer at both Live Oak Bancshares and its subsidiary Live Oak Bank.

Stasiowska enters the role with more than 20 years of experience, having previously served as senior managing director at Webster Bank.

Elsewhere, Strategy Inc, a global Bitcoin treasurycompany, appointed Thomas Chow as its executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary,at the start of the month.

In an 8-K filing, the company confirmed that Chow will take over from incumbent Wei-MingShao who is retiring at the end of the year.

Chow joins from Chia Network andPermutoCapital, where he served as chief legal officer. Before that, he was general counsel at PubMatic. He also previously held senior legal roles at Snap and Exponential Interactive.

In Delaware, biopharmaceutical company Incyte welcomed Richard Hoffmanas executive vice president and general counsel.

Before joining Incyte, Hoffman served as a partner in Goodwin’s Life Sciences group, advising a diverse portfolio of emerging and established companies, including Anthos Therapeutics, Compass Therapeutics,Deciphera Pharmaceuticals, PepGen andSyntimmune.

Earlier on, he also held senior leadership roles in the biotechnology industry at Hybridon (nowIdera Pharmaceuticals) and Avitech.

Hoffman succeeds Sheila Denton, who will be leavingIncyteto pursue new opportunities in the new year.

US-based medical tech firm Novantaannounced that Alexander Manganiello will serve as the company’s new general counsel and corporate secretary.

Manganiello enters the role with more than 30 years of industry experience. Before joining Novanta, he worked for Vertex, most recently as vice president, deputy general counsel, a position he had since 2019. Between 2004 and 2019. Manganiello held several senior legal roles at Pfizer.

He succeedsMichele Welsh, who departed from the role effective July 18, 2025.

Across the pond in Australia, video technology company Linius appointed Sophie Karzis as company secretary.

Karzis previously served as company secretary and general counsel of Afterpay, where she played a key role in the company’s $29 bn acquisition by Block.

Following Afterpay, Karzis has acted as corporate counsel and company secretary for several ASX-listed companies, including Gale Pacific and Maggie Beer and is currently a director of Touch Ventures and PlaySide Studios.

Staying in Australia, MyEco Group, a provider ofsustainable commercial and consumer goods, confirms that Colin Lai has tendered his resignation as CFO and company secretary.

Lai will stay with the company during his notice period, with his final day to be 27 February 2026.

The company has launched an official process to find a suitable replacement
